Knot1 - a portion of a branch or limb that has become incorporated into a piece of lumber. In lumber, knots are classified as to form, size, quality, and occurence. A red knot is one that results from a live branch growth in the tree and is intergrown with the surrounding wood. A black knot is one that results from a dead branch which the wood growth has surrounded.Back
Knuckle Boom - a crane-like apparatus with a hinged boom and a grapple that allows relatively light loads to be moved in any direction quickly.Back
Lumber Size - each piece of lumber that does not fall within set widths and thicknesses must be downgraded according to the amount of deviation from the standard.Back

Splits1 - a seperation of the wood through the piece to the opposite surface or to an adjoining surface.Back
Wane1 - bark or lack of wood from any cause, except eased edges, on the edge or corner of a piece of lumber.Back
Warp1 - any deviation from a true or plane surface, including bow, crook, cup, and twist or any combination thereof.
